A proven track record of growth and impact
Over the past 30 years, Cambridge Enterprise Ventures has supported the development of more than 210 University-connected companies.
Today, our portfolio includes over 120 companies spanning sectors including life sciences, healthcare, AI, quantum technologies and sustainability. This reflects both the breadth of innovation emerging from Cambridge and the diverse challenges these ventures are tackling.
As these companies have grown, they have attracted more than £3.5 billion in follow-on funding from investors around the world. Alongside this growth, the Ventures portfolio has delivered more than 60 full and partial exits, generating returns that can be reinvested into the next generation of Cambridge innovation.

These companies represent the latest generation of ventures emerging from the University, building on a much longer history of success. Over the past three decades, Cambridge Enterprise Ventures has supported companies that have gone on to achieve significant commercial milestones through acquisitions, public listings and international growth.
Notable examples include Solexa, whose sequencing technology helped transform genomics, Cambridge Display Technology, a pioneer in polymer OLED display technology, and more recent successes such as Gyroscope Therapeutics and Centessa Pharmaceuticals. Together, these examples demonstrate the long-term value that can emerge from University-connected innovation.
Working together to scale innovation
The success of Cambridge Enterprise Ventures is built on more than investment alone. Our team works alongside academics, founders, investors and partners to help ventures access the expertise, networks and funding needed to grow.
We focus on areas where Cambridge research and innovation can address major global challenges, with our portfolio clustered into four areas of activity: Life Science, Physical Science, Sustainability and Social Venturing. Many of these ventures also align strongly with the UK Government’s Industrial Strategy growth-driving sectors, highlighting the contribution Cambridge innovation can make to the UK’s future economic growth.
By combining focused investment with deep expertise and long-term collaboration, we help founders navigate the journey from early-stage idea to scalable business, strengthening both the Cambridge ecosystem and the wider innovation economy.
