Anyone can have a great business idea, but it takes perseverance and a solid plan to see that idea blossom into a viable spin-out.

To that end, Cambridge Enterprise and the Entrepreneurial Postdocs of Cambridge (EPOC) are launching a new business plan competition aimed at helping University postdocs successfully commercialise their ideas. Semi-finalists will be offered an opportunity to work on their business plans with experienced mentors from the business community; winners will receive cash prizes: £15,000 (first place) and £7,500 (second place).

If you’re a current postdoc or have a team comprised mostly of University postdocs, you’re qualified to enter.  All you need is a technology-based idea to develop and the determination to succeed.

The competition is open now for applications and closes on 18 September 2015. In addition to mentoring, semi-finalists’ business plans will receive feedback from the judges to help them improve their plan and develop it further.

Finalists will compete on 3 December 2015, pitching their business plans to the judges who are experts in spin-out investment.

The first place winner will have the opportunity to pitch at the next Cambridge Enterprise Venture Partners dinner, an investor forum of venture capitalists and business angels with more than £4 billion of funds under management by members.

So if you’re thinking about cultivating an idea, this is your opportunity. Send us your business plan and start working to make your idea a reality.
