University of Cambridge

Addressing the global concerns about worsening mental health, Cambridge Adaptive Testing develops rapid, simple, and precise mental health measurement using smart technologies. Its age-specific platforms enable efficient mental health assessments to identify those in need of support.

Typically, traditional mental health tools are often unsuitable for busy environments like schools and workplaces due to the time they take to complete. By applying adaptive testing technology, its assessments are quick, personalised, and highly repeatable. The user-friendly platforms come with a dashboard that allows organisational clients to easily distribute assessments, monitor data collection, and create bespoke reports for individuals, managers, and boards.

Measuring the mind, efficiently

Over 20% of young people are affected by mental ill health. Offering a quick and reliable mental health check for children and young people in schools, Cambridge Adaptive Testing’s product Artemis-A uses an adaptive testing algorithm to provide instant feedback and tailored reports to help identify and support.

Created by a team of experts in mental health at the University of Cambridge, in collaboration with the Wellcome Trust, NIHR, and MRC, Artemis-A is developed and designed with the user at the heart, with easy functionalities they would expect:

  • Efficiency: Adaptive testing technology ensures that only a small number of bespoke sub-questions need to be answered, which change each time the person takes part.
  • User-friendly: Co-produced with schools and teachers, Artemis-A is designed to be intuitive and easy to use.
  • Accessible: The platform includes two modules accessible via web browser; the assessment module and the administration panel for distribution and generating reports to take actionable steps for help.

Backed by over 10 years of dedicated research, Professor Peter Jones, Professor of Psychiatry Emeritus at the University of Cambridge and an honorary consultant psychiatrist with the NHS, is an epidemiologist and highly cited researcher. Co-founded with Dr Jan Stochl, Senior Research Associate, psychometrician, and statistician, Stochl has expertise in latent variable modelling, graph networks, and computerised adaptive testing. Joined by CEO Alison Howie, with over 30 years of experience in MedTech, Howie has held leadership roles in commercial and R&D functions for a major multinational business and C-suite roles in early-stage companies. Together they are driving a technology to allow individuals and organisations to consider mental health as routinely as physical health.

Supported by Cambridge Enterprise, Cambridge Adaptive Testing is making significant strides in mental health assessment, providing a needed solution to help people early on and make a real difference, globally.
