Dr Matt Wells Commercialisation Associate (Physical Sciences)

As a Commercialisation Associate, Matt is responsible for engaging with researchers across the physical sciences and supporting their pathway to commercialisation by assisting with patent processes, assessing market potential, and identifying spin-out/start-up opportunities.

Before joining Cambridge Enterprise Matt worked as a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Cambridge, working on the development of thin-film Solid Oxide Fuel Cells for portable power applications. This followed a PhD at Imperial College London studying new plasmic materials, with applicability in areas such as solar energy, cancer therapy, and optical communications.

During his time in academia, Matt authored/co-authored several high impact publications and contributed to two patents describing the use of novel nanocomposite materials in Solid Oxide Fuel Cells. This work in particular highlighted to him the tremendous value that Tech Transfer Offices, such as Cambridge Enterprise, can add to the real-world impact of academic research.
