We’re delighted to announce that six semi-finalists have been selected in the first-ever Cambridge Enterprise – Entrepreneurial Postdocs of Cambridge (EPOC) business plan competition. They are:

  • Dr Christina Fuhr
  • Dr David Fairen-Jimenez
  • Dr Julia Tischler
  • Dr Liang Wang
  • Dr Richard Bowman
  • Dr Tongyun Li

The postdocs and their six projects will now enter the next round, which will include three individual meetings with an experienced mentor to improve each of the business plans and help the contestants develop the key business skills they will need to make their projects grow.

Three finalists will compete at the awards ceremony on 3 December, pitching their business plans to the judges who are experts in spin-out investment. The winners will receive cash prizes: £15,000 (first place) and £7,500 (second place).

The first place winner will also have the opportunity to pitch at the next Cambridge Enterprise Venture Partners dinner, an investor forum of venture capitalists and business angels with more than £4 billion of funds under management by members.

The response to the competition was robust, and the field of candidates strong. We would like to thank all the participants and congratulate the semi-finalists.

On to the finale!
