Cambridge Enterprise portfolio company Breathing Buildings has been named one of the first winners of the Berti Green Accelerator programme, which aims to accelerate the growth of low carbon start-ups through a mixture of business support and funding.

Breathing Buildings, which has successfully commercialised its patented, low energy e-stack mixing ventilation solution, is one of only three winners of the programme. The company will now receive up to six months of first class business support and expertise from Hamilton Bradshaw Impact Partners, and up to £1 million of investment from Berti Investments to help the business grow sustainably.

Over 80 businesses applied for the programme. The last stage in the four month process for the final six applicants was a pitch to a panel of judges which included James Caan, founder of Hamilton Bradshaw; Jeremy Leggett, founder and chairman of Solarcentury; Michael Liebreich, founder and chief executive of Bloomberg New Energy Finance and Jacques Tredoux, director of Berti Investments.

The passion and drive of the team was infectious and I was really impressed by their knowledge of the market, their product and their pricing.

Speaking about Breathing Buildings’ success, James Caan said: “The passion and drive of the team was infectious and I was really impressed by their knowledge of the market, their product and their pricing.”

“Breathing Buildings has a simple, patented solution to provide natural ventilation in buildings, saving money and improving ventilation,” said Michael Liebreich. “As a thermodynamics guy, how could I not like it?”

Breathing Buildings’ e-stack systems are already operating in over 60 different buildings, covering a variety of uses, across both the public and private sector.

David Wilkinson, finance and operations director of Breathing Buildings, said: “I am delighted we are a winner of the first Berti Green Accelerator programme. E-stack has been an incredible success and the Berti Green Accelerator programme can play a role in taking the company to the next level through investment in our UK sales force. The support that Hamilton Bradshaw offer will be invaluable in this process, these are very exciting times for all at Breathing Buildings.”
