Machine learning solutions for research and development

Spinouts

Intellegens is a Cambridge-based company specialising in advanced machine learning solutions for research and development (R&D) across industries such as chemicals, materials, life sciences, and manufacturing.

Spun out from the University of Cambridge, Intellegens developed the Alchemite™ Suite, which enables organisations to extract valuable insights from incomplete data, optimising products and processes while reducing experimental workloads by 50-80%. This accelerates innovation, shortens time-to-market, and lowers costs.

Intellegens collaborates closely with customers and partners, offering scientific services and integration partnerships to ensure the effective application of their machine learning tools.

Faster, more efficient innovation for the next-generation

Founded in 2017 by Dr Gareth Conduit, a Royal Society Fellow at the Cavendish Laboratory, and Ben Pellegrini, an expert in big data and cloud-based platforms, Intellegens leverages the advanced machine learning algorithm, Alchemite™. Originating from Dr Conduit’s work and collaborations at the Department of Physics, the growing team continues to develop and enhance this technology, tailoring it to meet the evolving needs of its customers.

“Machine learning is transforming R&D by enabling faster, more efficient innovation. Traditional experimentation is slow and costly, often limited by the sheer complexity of materials, chemicals, and life sciences research.”

Their technology has been integrated into platforms such as Optibrium’s Cerella™ for drug discovery and Ansys’s Granta MI™ for additive manufacturing data management.

In 2023, Intellegens was recognised as AI Company of the Year by the Cambridge Independent Science and Technology Awards.

Supported by Cambridge Enterprise Ventures, Intellegens is one of our Deep Tech portfolio companies, specialising in training neural networks on sparse or noisy data to improve experimental efficiency for the next generation of researchers and innovators.
