Media, Content and Commercialisation: Podcasting Panel

Podcasts may feel like the perfect fit for research communication via thought-provoking conversation and creative storytelling. With a low entry barrier compared to mainstream media, podcasting provides an alternative space to disseminate your research work and create socio-cultural impact with a community of engaged listeners. But how to make a success of podcasting and to produce something professional and likely to have lasting impacts?

This panel discussion provides different perspectives on the opportunity for podcasting to be used as an effective communication channel by researchers to build up creative dialogues with broader academic communities and the general public.

The panel discussion will be full of hints and tips and real-life experience, covering different aspects of podcasting from strategy (podcast as promotional and public engagement toll, partnerships, revenue and sponsorship) to skills (content creation and delivery).

Speakers: Catherine Carr, Host at Relatively Podcast and Producer of Talking Politics Podcast; Jonathan Baillie Strong, Spotlight Podcasting and editor at Podbrief; Claire Curran, Woolf Institute, producer of Naked Reflections & Niamh Gallagher, Researcher.

Questions to the panel can be submitted at registration.

Learning outcomes: Panel discussion and open Q &A specifically focusing on podcast production and routes to market. The discussion among experts aims to produce actionable insights for participants on how the market for podcasting works (including industry entry points and opportunities), as well as the skills needed and the strategies for creating a successful podcast offering.
