Idea Space at the Hauser Forum
Opening in early 2010, the Hauser Forum is a new, mixed-use development at the University’s West Cambridge site, made possible thanks to a generous £8 million donation by the Hauser-Raspe Foundation. The East of England Development Agency (EEDA) has invested £2 million into the project which will create a state-of-the-art enterprise hub to stimulate "open innovation"; innovative collaborations between clusters of academics, start-up businesses and established industries.
Comprising two buildings, the Hauser Forum will be home to Cambridge Enterprise, the Idea Space, Seminar Centre and the Café Atrium. The Broers Building, named in honour of the former University of Cambridge Vice-Chancellor Lord Broers, will provide commercial, research and development and ancillary space which will be let to private organisations whose activities are relevant to entrepreneurship and knowledge transfer.
The Idea Space programmes at the Hauser Forum will link up entrepreneurial activities within the University to impact the region and thereby accelerate and widen entrepreneurial activity across the East of England Region and beyond. The programmes will especially be built on the open innovation agendas already established in and around Cambridge. The Idea Space represents the next generation of science parks where an innovative idea has the best chance to emerge as a company and it enhances the numerous enterprise hub activities already undertaken around Cambridge.
The Manager of the Idea Space will be responsible for making recommendations regarding programmes deserving of funding and then marketing the programmes and establishing and maintaining contacts within the University as well as in the wider business community.
