Dr Mike Arnott
Mike is the Physical Sciences Investment Manager for the Seed Funds team. He initially worked as an exploration geophysicist, a highlight being the identification of the Banks Shallow field in 1985. Mike then took a PhD in Surface Physics at the Cavendish Laboratory, where he patented one and licensed two unrelated technologies to industry.
After completing his PhD, Mike joined Xaar plc, becoming the Senior Technologist and design authority for their printheads up until the flotation of Xaar in 1997. He went on to TTP, developing the TouchSprayTM manufacturing processes and a new ink-jet technology. He was recruited by an American VC to analyse and invest in technology opportunities worldwide – a role he continued with a UK focus for NESTA. Mike then worked on developing startups and licensing opportunities for UCL on topics ranging from climatology through medical devices to nanotechnology before joining Cambridge Enterprise.
